The Open

The Open 2017

This summer, the Royal Birkdale Golf Club will host The Open for the tenth time since 1954, which, alongside Royal Lytham, makes it the most regular venue for the Championship other than St Andrews. The Open has been played since 1860 at some of the world’s greatest links courses and the prestigious Championship is the oldest in professional golf. The Claret Jug, which was first presented to Tom Kidd in 1873, is one of the most iconic trophies in the world of sport.

As well as the elite golfers taking part in the Championship, The Open attracts golf enthusiasts from around the world. Located on the Southport coast, Royal Birkdale is on beautiful links land that runs 20 miles north of the iconic and vibrant city of Liverpool.
