Shopping

St. Andrews is rightly known for its boutique stores and independent local businesses, with a high street that’s teeming with fashion outlets, boutique designers and vintage shops. Browse high fashion, cutting-edge electronics and cosy homeware both local and designer, or take in one of the towns many markets and festivals – the Crail Food Festival comes particularly highly recommended, along with the Lammas Market and a fantastic local farmers’ market, which takes place every month.

If you’re on the hunt for some local food, drink and art, there’s nowhere better than the marketplace at St. Andrews!

Eating Out

Maybe you’re all shopped out, or taking a break after a scenic walk around town to get a coffee and a snack – whatever your reason, it’s time for a bite to eat, and St. Andrews has some great options for any gourmet palate.

A particular local favourite is Vine Leaf, with a diverse menu that’s always being updated and expanded, and which has earned them a reputation around town as one of the best eateries going. If that’s not your thing, you could try brunch at the North Point Café or The Vic, or even pop in for a waffle breakfast at St. Andrews Waffle Company! Or if you’re after something a little more formal, The Seafood Ristorante offers locally-caught fresh seafood with an Italian twist, all served with a breath-taking view.

And what picturesque seaside town would be complete without its local ice cream parlour? Janetta’s Gelateria is more than just an ice-cream vendor, though – their gelato is made fresh right there on the premises, and uses only the finest local ingredients or authentic imports from Italy. With a staggering 54 flavours on offer, they’ve really got something for everyone! Why not grab a cone and go for a walk along the beach?

Nightlife

St. Andrews is famous for having a pub on every corner, and that’s not far from the truth! This little town really comes alive at night, with a vibrant social scene you won’t want to miss. From club nights at The Vic to the Whey Pat Tavern or the locally-famous Club 601, you’ll always find somewhere with a great atmosphere, and with Eden Mill in town, there’s an incredible selection of small-batch beers, unique craft gin and locally-made whiskey to lend the night a special flavour.

Your accommodation in St. Andrews is perfectly-situated to explore the town and take in the nightlife of this Scottish treasure, so why not make the most of it?

Culture

There’s no two ways about it: St. Andrews is one of the most beautiful and historically-significant places in Scotland – or the British Isles as a whole! This ancient town is home to the spectacular ruins of the St. Andrews Cathedral, as well as the Blackfriars Monastery, a 15th-century friary whose ruins look mournfully out over the sea even today. History buffs will love the St. Andrews Castle as well, with its engaging tours, its underground mine and its notorious prison, and then a trip over to the University Museum will complete the day with some fascinating local heritage!

There’s also the Museum of St. Andrews Cathedral, which has loads of incredible medieval art and sculpture, and the Bell Pettigrew Museum, which any zoologist or palaeontologist is bound to love.

If you’re a golfer, there’s no better place in the UK (and, some would argue, the world) to play the sport than St. Andrews, where the Open Championship is often played, and where golf has been played and celebrated for almost 1000 years. Whether you’re looking for world-class coaching, a chance to rub shoulders with the greats or just the chance to play a few quiet rounds on courses that are famous for their quality and beauty, there’s nowhere better than St. Andrews.

The same can be said about the scenery. Whichever way you look, there are magical views – and with your accommodation in St. Andrews situated right on the beach, you’re in the perfect spot to enjoy them. Take a stroll on West Sands Beach, or climb to the top of the historic St. Rules’ Tower for a view that will take your breath away.
